Thanks Emilya. As to why he didn’t fashion himself a suit of clothes, well, I guess he’s just not right in the head. And as far as the physics of socks and flaming swords are concerned, I may have to consult an expert.

Well, that explains it. I say this is quite good. I do wonder why the guy didn’t care about a change of clothing, since he so obviously could take it? Or is that too American of a thought? Also, how many socks does it take to make a flaming sword? And once the flaming sword goes back into the vacuum, do the socks also reappear in the dryer?

Nice work in sharing this story. I myself are fond of singing and do some gigs and I really admired the way she handled the crowd professionally as a singer. I think what she did is what every singer has to do and their responsibility. Great job on making this and hope you continue sharing stories like this.

Ah ha! Reading “The Postman” today (home sick) and immediately did a search for the same after reading that passage. (big Firefly fan myself).

Like the way no one speaks and yet there is so much noise, so much bustle from the train and people’s appurtenances such as luggage on racks.

Sounds like you wrote this as it happened. I’ve seen brief moments of that, where there’s a room full of people and suddenly all the conversations pause and there’s this almost painful silence, then someone laughs and the hubbub returns.

@Lara: Yes, it’s a different boy. Unless the original The Giving Tree was about the boy reading it in the first paragraph. Which would be very meta.

And to all who felt that the boy in the original was very selfish: I agree, and I’ve read the same from others who felt that way as well. Not really sure what point it was trying to get across.

This was great… had me hooked the entire time – and I didn’t make the connection until the end… even with the picture… I must be slipping!

Lawn ornaments are just scary… whether they move, talk, or just remain still… they scare the heck out of me.
